Pingan Dance, Traditional Dances From West Kalimantan






Pingan Dance is a traditional dance originating from West Kalimantan. This dance is a dance of entertainment for the people. The word pingan in Dayak Mualang means a plate made of stone or from clay. As the name implies, this dance uses a plate as an attribute in dancing.



This dance is originally a traditional dance that is presented to entertain the community in every traditional event such as gifts, weddings, and others. This dance is a very attractive dance, using a plate as an attribute in the dance. In every movement, it is not uncommon to invite click amazed the audiences who are seeing it.



Movement in Pingan Dance is more emphasis on the attractive movement by using a dish as an attribute dance and combined with dance movement movements. Movement in Pari Dance is adapted from the traditional silat movement with a lively movement and attractive and often amazed the audience.



Pingan Dance is divided into 2 (two) types of Dance Pingan inok (woman) and also Pingan Dance male (male). The difference between these two types is in the movement, where the movement has a different degree of difficulty in the movement of attractiveness. In that case, the male Pingan Dance has a higher difficulty level compared with Pingan Dance inok.



In the show, the dancers bring a plate or pingan in both hands that are used for the attributes of dancing. In addition, dancers are equipped with a ring on the middle finger of the dancers, so that when the dancer plays the sound will cause a sound if the plates and rings are touching. Movement in playing the plate is adjusted to the accompaniment of the tebah so that the sound of the pingan will complement each other with the sound of accompaniment from tebah. This bamboo is a traditional musical instrument consisting of tawag, entebong (long drum), and also the tin ring of peningkak.



Pingan Dance is at first glance almost similar to Piring Dance from Padang, West Sumatra Province. What distinguishes this dance, however, is its movements which emphasize the attractive movement. While on the plate dance more emphasis on the game plate is very graceful.



Although Pingan Dance is one of the traditional dances that have been long, this dance is still preserved. Many cultural centers there are still preserving this Pingan Dance as one of the traditional dances in West Kalimantan Province. This dance is still often performed in various regional events such as gifts, welcoming guests, and cultural festivals.
