Boran Dance is one of the traditional dances originating from Lamongan, East Java. The dance represents the life of boran rice sellers selling their wares and interacting with buyers. Boran dance is rich in the value of art and culture, but also there are many philosophical values in it. This dance is a very famous traditional dance in Lamongan and also became one of the typical dances there.




History of Boran Dance


Boran Dance is inspired by the sellers of rice boran, which is a traditional food typical of Lamongan, East Java Province. In ancient times the sellers of this boran rice in hawking their wares by using Wakul or a container of rice made of bamboo placed on top of their heads to carry it. In peddling their rice boran they walk and offer their wares to everyone they meet. Under the heat of the sun and also the rigors of life they struggle in search of fortune. From their struggle that inspired the artists in Lamongan to create a dance called Tari Boran this.



The beauty of Boran Dance is located in a beautiful and well-organized movement. In the show, this dance is done in groups so that the formation and also the compactness is very important here. The movement of Boran Dance tends to be a simple and meaningful movement. Each movement in this dance depicts the activities of the boran rice sellers in the past, from preparing food to selling it to customers.




Boran Dance Show


In the show, the dancers dance with lively and compact. The rhythm of the dance movement is sometimes slow and sometimes also quickly according to the storyline that is displayed so that the message and its meaning can be easily communicated to the audience. In addition, the movement is also adapted to the musical accompaniment to look aligned. Music accompaniment in Boran Dance is a gamelan music that is typical of East Java Province.




Boran Dance Costume


Costumes used in Boran Dance is usually using traditional clothing in the form of long-sleeved kemben clothes. At the bottom of the dancer wearing trousers along the bottom of the knee, wearing the same color as kebaya and also wearing a typical Lamongan batik cloth waisted to cover the pants. Also, the head section using a cloth head cover (kupluk). Do not forget the place of rice (wakul) used as a property to dance it.
