Adityawarman State Museum in Padang







Adityawarman Museum built with the awareness and the need for a container for the preservation of cultural heritage in West Sumatra Province as one effort to stem the flow of objects - objects of the existing cultural heritage of this region abroad. In a series of business activities to rescue the objects of the cultural heritage, the Chief Representative of the Department of Padang and West Sumatra Province, namely Mr. Amir Ali, has expressed a desire from the Governor of West Sumatra Province at that time held by Mr. Harun Zain to immediately build a "Minangkabau Culture Hall", which has been addressed by the Directorate of Museum by building a regional museum building.





The construction of this museum which is located in the area of approximately 2.6 hectares with the current building area is 2,854.8 m2, and inaugurated on 16 March 1977 by Prof. Dr. Syarif Thayeb who at that time served as head of the Minister of Education and Culture of Indonesia. Since then, this museum can be able to perform its duties and also its functions gradually and to this day as a museum of community pride in West Sumatra. Furthermore, this museum is named after the State Museum of Adityawarman of West Sumatra based on Ministerial Decree No.093 / 0/1979 dated May 28, 1979.





The use of the name Adityawarman refers to the name of a King of Minangkabau who ruled around in the 14th century. After the regional autonomy, for the status of this Adityawarman Museum Year 2001 inaugurated and managed by the West Sumatra Provincial Government under the auspices of the Department of Culture and Tourism West Sumatra Province.





Collections that have been owned for the year 2006 can amount to 5781 pieces consisting of archaeological collections, and numismatic and also heraldika, ceramics, then ethnografika, fine arts, teknologika, biological, then geological, historical and also philologist.
